Research Assistant
I am a PhD student working with the Zhang group and based in the Howe group in the Department of Biochemistry.
Background
Bachelor of Philosophy (an undergraduate science research degree) with First Class Honours in Biology, Australian National University, Australia (2011-2015)
Research Assistant in the Price Lab, Research School of Biology at the Australian National University & ARC Centre of Excellence for Translational Photosynthesis (2016-2017)
Research
I am interested in the biochemistry of photosynthesis, in particular pathways of electron transfer. I mainly work with the model photosynthetic cyanobacterium (also known as blue-green algae) Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.
I aim to understand more of the biological factors underpinning cyanobacteria's ability to export electrons to their environment, called exoelectrogenic activity (Lea-Smith et al., 2016). There is great potential to harness cyanobacteria's exoelectrogenic activity in biophotovoltaic devices to generate renewable electricity (McCormick et al., 2015).
Funding
Cambridge International Scholarship from the Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust.
